In general witchcraft is sorcery, the magical manipulation of the supernormal forces through the use of spells, and the conjuring or invoking of spirits. Anthropologists refer to witchcraft as the use of malevolent powers by psychic means without the need for ritual or charm. This is so for the days of the Inquisition but not for the contemporary western world where witches work magic through spells. Witchcraft involves the use of supernormal powers such as shape-shifting, clairvoyance, invisibility, flying, the ability to kill at a distance and astral projection. During the middle ages and the renaissance, it was defined as evil magic, heresy and devil-worship. Contemporary witchcraft has redefined it as a reconstructed form of Pagan religion that worships the Goddess and horned god and has no connection with Christianity or the devil. It also only used for good rather than for harmful use. The inquisition was not a persecution of witches as believed by contemporary popular belief it was actually the persecution of heretics and enemies of the church.

If there’s one thing that Witches are famous for... it's the ability to cast spells. It may come as a surprise that casting a magick spell doesn’t mean throwing arcane and somewhat disgusting, items into a bubbling cauldron. Nor does it require the use of a special wand and sparkly, flashing lights. It is actually quite simple, if you follow the rules. As with all things magickal there are rules to follow. The one rule is ~ An it harm none, do as you will. It means that you can go ahead and do whatever your heart desires magickally, so long as neither you or anyone else gets hurt or suffers a loss in the process. Forget all about the notions you may have about Curses, Hexes, or using magick in other ways to “get even”.

In many parts of the world a witch was thought to turn into a Crow for her nighttime adventures so they could fly away in case of an emergency. This is only a myth.
