Rose Hips | Rose Hip Oil

Primitive Witch
Magical uses ´ ¨`*

Rose hips are associated with the planet Venus and the element of water, a wonderful botanical to use for love and peace. Try adding some whole rose hips to magical pot pourri to create a peaceful, calm atmosphere. Use rose hips in a ritual bath for work concerning love, soulmates and companionship. Crush and add to incense, add to sachets and charm bags or string on a necklace as part of a love attracting ritual. Rose hips can also be used as offerings to encourage friendly spirits to take up residence or simply carry rose hips with you for general good luck.

Primitive Witch

The rose hips are the fruits of a rose. Also known as rose haw or rose hep. The wild dog rose is the type of rose most often cultivated for their hips. Once the flower has bloomed, and all the petals have fallen off, the hip is picked and may be used in a potion. Rose hips are a fantastic source of vitamin C; containing 50% more vitamin C than oranges. They can be eaten raw, after removing the fine hairs that are inside or soaked in water overnight and then cooked in the water for about half an hour. The pulp from rose hips may be used in sauces or made into jelly.
Primitive WitchIf you decide to harvest your own rose hips there are a few things to keep in mind. There are fine hairs inside of each rose hip that you will want to remove before consuming them. Once dried the rose hip may be placed in a grinder and then fine sift out these hairs. Harvest is best in late Summer or early Autumn, when the rose hip is soft to the touch for ripeness. It is also best done on sunny, dry days. Make sure there are no herbicides or pesticides on the plant. Although you may be tempted to prune off old flowers in your garden, you have to let them die and the petals fall naturally to get the hips, as in nature. You can store rose hips either fresh or dried in the freezer. Use them to brew a tea, make them into jelly and my personal favorite... turn them into rose hip oil. When storing them be sure to not use a metal container, the fruit acids and the metal do not mix well.
Primitive WitchRose hips have been used since the Stone Age . The benefits of this flower fruit are indeed valid. Don't only take the time to stop and smell the roses, take a bit more time to eat the fruit too! It has been said that the first gardening was done by planting the rose bush.
To make the tea simply pour a cup boiling water over a tablespoon of crushed, dried hips and let steep. After straining out any pieces of the hips you can add honey and drink.
The astringent qualities of rose hip oil makes it powerful. It has the ability to help regenerate new skin cells. This can be used to treat scars, acne and burns. While it is an astringent, it does not dry out the skin; actually it helps to re-hydrate it, keeping the moisture in.
Drinking rose hip tea daily will also benefit your skin as they have a high vitamin A content.

Primitive Witch
Rose hip oil ´ ¨`* helps to regenerate skin cells, healing wounds and scars. It also helps to keep the skin elastic and nourished. This will not only prevent wrinkles, but can actually help to minimize any that have already appeared.
Gather one cup of fresh rose hips or use dried. Look for firm rose hips that are bright orange or red in color. Wear leather gloves to protect your hands from thorns and pluck the rose hips from the plant.
Crush the hips gathered with a mortar and pestle. Combine 1 cup rose hips with the oil. Place the rose hips in a small slow cooker, next pour 2 cups almond oil or jojoba oil in.
Heat the oil on warm or low setting about eight hours, covered. The oil should smell fragrant and be orange in color once it's infused long enough.
Strain the oil and discard the solids. Turn off your slow cooker and set a strainer over a bowl. Line the strainer with cheesecloth and carefully pour the oil through it. This should separate the rose hip solids from the oil. You can toss out the rose hips
Pour the oil to a clean glass jar that's dark. Rose hip oil is sensitive to light. Screw on a tight fitting lid and put the oil in the refrigerator or cool dark place to store up to six to eight months.

Herbs are used in magic for their "vibrations" or "essences". This means... Herbs, like people, have gender, are ruled by a planet, an element, and are often sacred to a God or Goddess. Herbs can be used in Charms and Sachets, Incense, Oils, Teas and Baths.
My belief is that there is energy in all things in Nature!

Spells N Potions

Everything has an innate energy and you empower every preparation or craft object with your intention.

A traditional besom is an ash stave handle with bristles made from birch twigs. These twigs are tied on using thin pieces of willow wood. It is used to cleanse the ritual area before circle casting.

Banish Negativity Spell
To banish negative energy place an onion quarter in each corner of you room overnight. The next day, wearing rubber gloves, chop them up and bury them. Do this for 3-7 days in a row.

The Witchcraft Religion

A spell is a thought, a projection, or a prayer. Other religions use prayer, meditation, projection and ritual to produce an intended result. The word "spell" does not imply doing evil or harm.

"Witchcraft" is a Celtic (pronounced Kell-tick) word meaning the wise, good people. "Wicce" (wick-kay) designates a female Witch whereas "Wicca" (wick-kah) designates a male Witch.

Witches’ are not evil. They do not want to cause harm of any kind. They believe that doing evil and harm is against all ethical and moral laws.

Witches simply do not do harm.

Witches DO NOT worship Satan... Witches do not have a Satan/Devil or any all-evil deity in their religious structure. Witchcraft is a religion that underscores polarity and views the God and the Goddess as equal entities. Witches’ do not discriminate against color or ethnic origin and does view everything as equal in the eyes of the Goddess and the God.

The Pentacle…It is worn as an amulet and a symbol for protection. The five-pointed star represents the human body and the earth. In combination, the star surrounded by the circle represents the human body encompassed by the protection of the Goddess/God force. It is the symbol for Universal Wisdom.

Dressed in Black?
Witches wear all colors and styles of clothing…

Many Witches do choose to wear black clothing or ritual robes. The color black is the culmination of all vibrational rates of light on the material plane. Black absorbs light information and helps Witches be more receptive to psychic impressions and energies.

Magic Wands...
Often you see the use of magic wands in children's cartoons and movies making the idea seem frivolous. In actuality they are used in healing for directing energy.
Witches do use Witchcraft as a science, an art and a religion... They use their knowledge and magic in harmony with the Universe and Nature around them.

Witches do concern themselves with ecology...

They have never forgotten this basic fact: the world is not our enemy.
Neither is it inert, dumb matter. The earth and all living things share the same life-force. They are composed of patterns of intelligence, of knowledge, and of divinity.
All life is a web.
We are woven into it as sisters and brothers of All.
Witches need to be grounded in both worlds and awake to their responsibilities for both worlds.

Witchcraft ... the Primitive religion of Witchcraft is often called the oldest religion existent in the West. It is pre-Christian. It is also pre-Judaism, pre-Buddhism, pre-Islam and pre-Hinduism. In actuality, it is closer to Native American traditions and the early Shamanic traditions of many areas. It is probably important to note here that Wicca or Witchcraft is not Shamanism, and that Shamanism is not a religion but rather an ancient mystical practice that uses altered states to contact Gods, Spirits and other energies from this realm and others. These efforts were made to bring healing, wholeness and guidance.

Witches' Aspirin... Willow bark has been used for its pain-relieving qualities since ancient times. The White Willow (Salix alba) contains salicin, which is converted to salicylic acid in the body. Salicylic acid is closely related to aspirin the synthetic drug that has displaced Willow bark from popular use. Willow bark reduces fever and relieves rheumatism, a common ailment in cold and damp regions like the British Isles. A decoction can be used for gum and tonsil inflammations and as a footbath for sweaty feet. The bark is collected in the springtime being careful not to ring the tree or it will die. A decoction can be made by soaking 3 teaspoons (15ml) of the bark in a cup of cold water for 2 - 5 hours, then bring to the boil. Strain and take a wineglassful each day, a mouthful at a time. The bark can be dried, powdered and stored in an airtight container.

Most of us were not taught to protect ourselves through magic, how to work with the higher forces to keep our lives in harmony and balance, how to shield ourselves from harmful attacks, both physical and psychic. Witches know we are responsible for our own safety and well-being.  We also know how to promote our own welfare and defend ourselves without causing harm to others.

Pendulums are one of the easiest and quickest ways to perform divination.

Pendulums have been used for centuries as means to divine the future and to find out answers to pressing questions that people would like to have answers for.
Even though pendulums are easy to use in a sense, there is much more to diving through pendulums then meets the eye.
In order to perform a pendulum reading properly, steps should be taken and considered before you begin to ask your questions to the pendulum.

Using and Cleansing Your Pendulum

Before you use a pendulum it is always best to ensure that you perform a protection ritual or spell before hand. The reasons for this is because when using any form of divination tools such as crystal balls, scrying mirrors, or pendulums, you are opening door ways not only to your subconscious, but also to the spirit world. Spirits often are summoned through divination whether intentionally or unintentionally to aid the seeker in finding their answers.

Even if you are not calling out to the spirits for aid, they will still be attracted to the divination tool because it is a doorway from their realm to ours and they often try to step through with or without our permission. This often leads to negative entities and demonic presences that can sometimes use these tools as a means to attack the seeker.

Visualize yourself surrounded by a bright white light. Keep visualizing it getting bigger and brighter and stronger. Surround your entire body until it is large enough that it will always be beyond the reach of your fingertips, no matter what direction you extend your arms.   In your own words, include your own beliefs and ask for protection - against any spirits harm.

" I am protected in the correct way from all positive and negative energies and forces that may come to do me harm."

If you choose to neglect the protection ritual or spell, then be warned that you are at risk of attracting unwanted energies to you.

Before  you use your pendulum cleanse it

It is always wise and advised to cleanse it before you perform any form of divination with it.
The easiest and most simple way to cleanse your pendulum would be to take some sage incense or a sage smudge stick and light them to where they are smoking well. Take your pendulum and pass it through the smoke several times. You can perform a prayer as you pass the pendulum through the smoke for added benefit if you choose.
Another way for cleansing would be to make up a salt water bath for it. If your pendulum is made from a gemstone this is a good method for cleansing. Take some cold water and mix it with some salt, preferably purification salts, though dead sea salt can also be used. Dunk your pendulum into the water several times and then when finished, dry it off very well.
For metal and wood pendulums this is not a good method as the salt can damage your pendulum, so the sage smoke cleansing method would be better suited for these pendulums.

Types of Pendulums
Pendulums come in many different shapes and sizes as well as materials that are used to craft and make them. Some popular pendulums include gemstone pendulums, metal pendulums, and wood pendulums.
Gemstone pendulums are made from actual gemstones and not only do they contain the energies of the stones that they are made from, but they also are best suited for pendulum divination because these energies inside the stones will cause the pendulum to swing stronger giving you a more clear answer to your questions. Gemstones are also very pure forms of energy as long as they are properly cleansed.
Metal pendulums are often made from brass, chrome, pewter, or steel. These pendulums are the next best pendulums to use after gemstones as the magnetic energies that many of these metals provide can give a strong swing to your pendulum bringing more clarification to your answers.
Wood pendulums are made from various woods and are normally hand carved. Wood is not the best medium to use for pendulums since they do not hold energy rather well and can often be weak when they swing back and forth.

Make sure the pendulum you choose is solid, though not too heavy. The heavier your pendulum is, the harder it would be for it to swing. Like wise, you do not want a pendulum that is too light either.
Many people also like to use necklaces with pendants for pendulums. Even though this can be done and the jewelry will swing back and forth like a traditional pendulum, the SHAPE of the pendulum is a key reason why traditional pendulums are preferred over jewelry.

Traditional pendulums are shaped in a certain way to specifically aid with divination. Many pendulums are shaped to where they have a point at the end. This point represents the end of the channeling energies that are being passed from you(the diviner) to the pendulum.
If you use necklaces with pendants instead of an actual pendulum, you may find that your answers are inconsistent and wrong. Even though the energies are there, making the necklace and pendant move like a pendulum, they are not being channeled correctly because the needed centered point is not there to complete the energy transfer.
For this reason it is best to use traditional pendulum shapes for your pendulums for most accurate results.

An herb is a plant that withers and dies after flowering, it lacks woody tissue , but has a medicine, seasoning scent. Herbs can be a wonderful addition to any spell or magickal working.
By nature, most herbs have certain properties that will help enhance the outcome of your intention. While it isn’t always necessary to use specific herbs in your witchcraft spells and potions, sprinkling a small pinch of corresponding herbs into the candle flame can lend more power to your spell.
You can also leave small dishes of herbs around your home to neutralize negative influences, promote peace and tranquility, and encourage beneficial energy.
Or consider making small charm bags with special combinations of herbs to further your spells after you close your circle.
Here are some common household herbs that can be easily obtained and used in your spells or magickal workings:

Basil – Is regarded as a love token. It is wonderful for neutralizing and repelling negative energy. Use it in your healing spells, or sprinkle it at the threshold to your home to keep away unwanted influences. Basil can also be used in prosperity spells to encourage abundance and positive outcomes.

Bay leaves – can help you to strengthen your psychic abilities, repel negativity, and increase your personal power. Use it in spells to open your psychic awareness, promote prophetic dreams, and increase your courage in any undertaking.

Cinnamon – is a multi-purpose herb that can be used in nearly any type of spell or magickal work. Typically it is known for its prosperity-attracting properties, but you can also use it for protection, enhancing spiritual awareness, and encouraging healing.

Cloves - To ensure that a friendship lasts for a long time, some cloves are sewn up in two little bags, each friend carries one at all times.

Fennel seed – is even more powerful at repelling negativity in all forms. Use it in your banishing spells or leave small dishes of it in the main areas of your home to neutralize negativity.

Lavender – flowers are wonderful for calling in positive energy and repelling negative energy. They have a calming scent that can instantly make you feel more relaxed and lighthearted, which makes them great for healing spells, love spells, and fertility spells. You can also use them to call in positive energy in any kind of magickal working.

Peppermint – is great for neutralizing negativity, and encouraging healing, love, and serenity in the home.

Sage – is wonderful for clearing away negativity also. It has cleansing properties that can be helpful in house-clearing rituals. You can purchase sage "sticks," which are small bundles of dried sage leaves tied together, which you can light and allow the smoke to "smudge" away any negativity in your home, or any other location.

Sesame seeds – attract success and abundance. Place them anywhere you wish to attract more prosperity, whether at home or work. You can also carry a small pouch of them when going to a job interview, or starting your own business.
